From: Bertil Jonell Subject: New Old Vehicle Format To: btrc@btrc.net (Blacksburg Tactical Research Center) *** TL8 Combat Boat m/07 - Mixed-TL armed vessel, the first Allied Nations vessel built wholly using locally produced parts and materials. The engine is a 430kW TL8 steam turbine. The data below assumes that it is fuelled by coke, but it is capable of using virtually all solid combustibles. On the foredeck is a TL8 120mm rifled, breach-loading field gun, firing fixed-cartrige rounds. The propellant is black powder (TL6) while the bursting charges of the shells is nitrocellulose(TL8) with pieces of magnesium mixed in. There is magazine space for 100 rounds. The gun has an hydraulic recoil dampening system and a AV40 gun shield. It is identical to the army version of the same gun, even retaining the road wheels, and can be dismounted in a couple of hours. Traverse and elevation is handled manually by the six-person gun crew of gun chief, aimer, loader and 3 ammo handlers. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- DV Init RM ROF AV Cost 120mm 159 -5 16 1/4 25 154k cann. 18 (+12) 9 Cr39.9, 46.1kg HEI 13/14E (skill 3) Cr119.7, 35.3kg ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rest of the crew consists of three watches of five persons; three engineers, commander and navigator. There are personal bunks for the entire crew, and the galley is capable of issuing eight meals per hour. Accessways are minimal. In addition to the 5.6t of coke, the powerplant needs 14.3t of water. When using salt water the maintainance interval is as indicated. If it gets fresh water it increases to 1000h and if it gets distilled water to 2000h. Typical combat weight is 67tons and absolute maximum weight is 70tons. Maintainance tools and parts weigh 44.3kg and cost Cr443. Repair tools and parts weigh 177.4kg and cost Cr1774. There are three sets of tools of both kinds and one generic part of both kinds onboard. Cost is Cr166812 excluding weapons and ammo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- CB m/07 (TL8) 22m x 4.4m x 3.3m x 1.0m Front 14 o Turret 40 h Top 14 o Turret 0 Sides 14 o Turret 0 Rear 14 o Turret 0 Bottom 14 o Rotation 55s Windows 0 Visibility +1/-0 Controls 8 (2r) Terrain - Engine(r) 9 (2r) Start 3min Structure 6 oa Rating 70t x 5 Max 12 Service 250h/17h Acc/Dec 0.16/1.3 Bulkheads 10 Turn 5 Stabilization - Passengers 0+21 Signature -4 Cargo 4.2t Damage 0.13 Range 1184 EType Nml./Cr. Special purpose armour value should be noted in paranthesis. Structure using armour materials or armour using structure materials is noted by adding an 'a' or an 's' in the appropriate place. Otherwise armour is assumed to use armour materials and structure structure materials. Redundant systems are the (X r) notation after other AVs. Visibility is the difficulty add of hitting vision ports, and the skill penalty of using them. Rating is the never-exceed weight and maximum of Acc, Dec and Turn the structure is based on. Service is the engine service interval and service time. Etype is the classification of the engine (Normal using Crude fuel in this case). Special engine mods (Cramped, Modular, Tweaked, Boosted) should be noted as letters following the Etype. Other systems using modular and/or cramped has to be noted in the text. Multiple engines would be noted as 'Engine(4 x r)' for four rear-mounted engines. Passenger notation means Passengers '+' Crew. Ftype is the type of fuel. The last number in the dimensions is the draft. I envision something similar to the Weapon strip above for sensors too. Known weaknesses (so far:) No place for noting multiple varying signatures for different types of sensors. -bertil- PS: The latest project for the campaign is a TL5 Orion-type nuclear-pulse rocket. Using those TL15 antimatter engines as nukes. Unfortunately VDS doesn't cover Orion ships:) And, Yes, all those weird TL-mixed vehicles (the above included) are in use in a campaign:) -- "It can be shown that for any nutty theory, beyond-the-fringe political view or strange religion there exists a proponent on the Net. The proof is left as an exercise for your kill-file."
