To make your own custom EABA cover: 1) Open the photoshop (6.0) file called "EABA_template.psh. This contains the masking for the text on the cover. 2) Load your own image into a new layer. The covers were originally edited at 300dpi, and saved at 150dpi jpeg. If you work at a different resolution, the following directions will vary accordingly. 3) Load the "EABA" mask, and copy the selected area from the main image to a new layer. 4) Do a "border" operation with an 8 pixel spread (the other masks use a 4 pixel border). 5) Use a "cutout" filter on the selected area. We used the free filter from the "Black Box" demo set. Any filter that gives an embossed or raised effect may work. 6) Reselect the "EABA" area on the result. 7) Manipulate to get the best contrast with the main image. We used the "Tachyon" filter from the "BladePro" set to good effect. A shifting of the color balance or range that preserves the underlying image while generating good contrast is what you are looking for. 8) Reselect the "EABA" area on the result. 9) Expand the selection 2 pixels. 10) Do a low-level Gaussian blur to blend the edges from steps 5 and 7. 11) Repeat steps 3 through 10 with the other masks. 12) Save image. 13) Set resolution at desired level. 14) Flatten image, discarding any layers you don't need. 15) Save as a jpeg at whatever compression you want to use. 16) You're done!
