TOPIC: Settings threads.

Settings threads. 10 months, 3 weeks ago #34

I guess if you want to discuss EABA settings this is the place.

Anyone want to start threads for any EABA settings? I like Fires of Heaven but think the PC aliens are somewhat lame. The ship rules are the best part and need to be expanded into a more generic EABA SF rules setting. I'm thinking of making rules for different drives, shields, tractor beams, etc.

I plan to incorporate parts of Fires of Heaven dealing with the ships, but I have my own setting that isn't very compatible.

The setting books I've gotten the most use from would probably be Nocturne and Code: Black. I can use Nocturne with just about any other setting I run, and since most of my campaigns have horror elements, Code: Black is often useful.

Hmm, nocturne is one of the settings I didn't get. I do have C:B however.

I GM a Star Wars campaign. I try to follow the Stuff! instructions, mainly the "don't create what you don't have to"...

But I still had to make a few weapons, E11, DL-44 and I am working on a Verpine sniper. I had to dismiss a few "known data" to make them useable. For example, if the DL-44 would have a capacity of 25, then it would damage far more then an E11 (~500 shots).
So I used the -8 compact ammo to both of them (this way E11 - 480 shots, DL-44 - 640 shots per clip). I used a Beneficial side effect, the 'Star Wars recoil' meaning, that it has a recoil only big enough to loose the Accuracy, not big enough to hurt. (The weight of plasma is minimal, and even if multiplied with the speed it wouldn't be very big impulse.)

Personal shields
Until now I said to my players that the shield can defend against 50d damage. But I wasn't satisfied with this solution, so I am thinking of making the shield as a weapon and the ammo capacity multiplied with the dmg will be the amount of dmg the shield can take. It will hopefully give me a reasonable price too.
(About prices, the E11 in my calculation costs 32kCr.)

Ships
The next campaign wil take place on a luxury ship which is about 3 km long. So, well, quite big. I can't really make this with Stuff! 'cos of the sizes, immagine the weight of such a ship. So I am going to change the gamist/simulationist type to gamist/narr*. I don't know but maybe it will come to blowing up the ship...

Ship shields are still in question.

How would you make a tractor beam? Any ideas?
Do you know sg about the speed of hyperspace travel? I couldn't really find any data concerning this. Maybe I should check an SWd20 corebook...

About the PCs, we have the well-tried human-wookie smuggler pair, and we will have a newcommer, an Alliance intelligence agent.

Since it is in a galaxy far, far away, we do not even have any interstellar distances to base things on. A jump seems to take at least several hours, possibly up to several days. Maybe a fan site has some info for that particular bit of "game reality".

Yeah, I suspect there's a ton of that type of info in the Star Wars RPG. Maybe some of the fan sites. I think I've seen the info...I'll dig around a bit.

from what I have read - admittedly on rpg.net the speed in hyperspace is speed of plot not that this helps of course ...
