EABA v2 art

The way I hope to run this is a separate thread for each chapter, or if necessary subchapter of the rules, hashing out each one until we get it right. If you are just joining, do not feel obligated to read every post in every thread.

I am designing this for you, but I will on occasion be intractable about changes someone is pushing for. But if I'm flat out wrong, make me see why I'm wrong. One thing that will not change is that EABA is supposed to be a general system. Anything specific enough that it only applies to a specific gameworld should be restricted to that gameworld's setting book.

This thread is where I'll post the prelims of the art as I get it. The first bits are the chapter breaks, by Paul Bourne. The pics are also on the BTRC Facebook page. Go like and share them.

Looking good. The top one made me snicker a little as I saw it as a reason to want critical hit rules, as in they're your only chance in a situation like that....

BTW, I still have this and you're welcome to it. I've improved my blender 3d skills a lot since I made this and could likely improve it a bit if you want.

Get some texture mapping on the model and some indirect lighting effects to add some depth, and I may hit you up if/when I redo Slag.

This is my current project, a star trek universe ship loosely based on fed tech but with some differences.

BTW, you're right I do need to work on textures and lighting...

Top one screams "Madcat variant" - too much like a Battletech design for me. And possibly for them...

First new pic: Very well textured and rendered, nice designs. A vague sense of an almost Maplethorpe feel but nothing to worry about.

EDIT: At higher res you see the guy is not bound, so it's not so much that other thing. Still, he has an almost medieval look to him that clashes with the high tech look when you see it at high res.

The large bot is great, I noticed the clear window on his chest and other details. The smaller bot seems to have a very thrown together, ad hoc look to it's design. Great pose tho.

Second pic. Loved it! Kind of a nice "From hell's heart I stab at thee!" or "I spit my last breath at thee!" feeling.

Third pic: Pretty good altogether, nice designs and rendering. I'd almost rather see the glowey blue strips either gone on made some other color that doesn't look so much like a sensor strip from a star trek ship. A deep red or green might suggest some sort of IR or low light sensor effect.

Last pic. Well done in general. I respect the artist for not going overboard on breasts. I think the rifles are overblown, and really, carrying two of them? One rifle and one smaller gun, like the ones shown in the pic above might have been more plausible. It could also suggest she's a sniper with a sniper rifle and a SMG type secondary for personal defense. That would more clearly define her and be more sensible than two huge rifles...

She seems to be wearing the same armor as the troops above her, so giving her a weapon like theirs would add some more consistency to the pictures.

All in all great improvement, and I wish I could texture like this guy....

first new pic: turns me off badly for that odd feel - it looks almost like repurposed leather-porn.

Others: not bad, but a bit videogamish.

Aramis, I agreed with you at first, I made the maplethorpe refference but after seeing them at higher resolution on the BTRC facebook page I realize the guy is not actually bound, his arms are not tied to his sides and his torso is covered in some sort of tattoo script.

I know what you mean about the leather porn look, but I was wrong when I saw it at higher res.

In fact, at higher res the guy has a medieval look to him from the waist up, the tattooing giving it an almost mystical look. Head over the btrc on facebook and see.
