Character management software

The way I hope to run this is a separate thread for each chapter, or if necessary subchapter of the rules, hashing out each one until we get it right. If you are just joining, do not feel obligated to read every post in every thread.

I am designing this for you, but I will on occasion be intractable about changes someone is pushing for. But if I'm flat out wrong, make me see why I'm wrong. One thing that will not change is that EABA is supposed to be a general system. Anything specific enough that it only applies to a specific gameworld should be restricted to that gameworld's setting book.

Greg, have you ever considered putting together any character management software? I know that Metacreator did a CORPS version (which I bought specifically for CORPS), but I'm not aware of any others.

You already do a fair amount with your PDFs, so didn't know if you'd considered taking it a step further. Actually what would be ideal would be to see an EABA module for Hero Lab.

I might actually make that a personal project if I have time. Hero Lab provides an authoring kit, and I might take a gander at it to see if I have a hope of putting something together.

If he'd maybe open up the chargen in Verne (Sweet little pile of bits, I have to say.) to allow people to make their own characters without the questionnaire and add in gear from other game settings that would be a vast improvement.

Also remember you can save the current sheets and even the sheets from Stuff if you use this to open and edit it:

download.cnet.com/PDF-XChange-Viewer/300...377.html?tag=mncol;1

It's free and it works, but I don't recommend it for viewing regular EABA pdf. Adobe free pdf reader lets you enter pages in the format greg uses (I.E. 3.11, etc) and takes you to the pages. PDF xchange doesn't.

I recommend using adobe to read EABA pdf rulebooks and pdf xchange free to edit and save character and equipment sheets.

If EABA is close enough to my ideals that I can houserule it into my go-to system, I'll probably build a character builder and manager for it. Right now the previews are looking very good though I need to actually put together a play test with my group once a few more chapters are out.

It would be a sort of library system allowing you to generate characters and other objects (Stuff! integration) and file them in some kind of structure against campaign notes and the like.

If I get going, it would be open source with collaborators welcome.

That is certainly something that falls under the EABA open supplement license, so if you want to make that sort of thing, be my guest. I do plan on making a general utility piece of software as a PDF, something more broadly useful than the Verne character maker.
