One of the issues that will eventually become problematic in EABA is that of experience ... in several aspects ...
1) How do you balance experience awards in games/eras/genres with few skills or where GMs use only the core rules rather than one of the genre expansions? This wasn't ever even hinted at in V1.1, and it could be an issue, depending on how one thinks about it. That is, if you just use the generic, core, V2 rules then your characters will, presumably, be able to improve their Skill Levels and Attributes etc much faster because there are fewer, more generic, skills to spread the points amongst ... 2) What happens when your character "tops out" ... they reach the racial maximum for an Ability (perhaps all of them) and they reach the maximum Skill level(s) they can have? Just learn more skills, whether they may be of no real use to them, simply because they use up all those XP? In CORPS, IIRC, you has "Ass Saver Points" which could be purchased with XP ... now, it's a while since I've played EABA, but I don't recall anything directly similar ... only Fate, as a Characteristic. Now, I realise that neither of these situations is likely to happen anytime soon in most campaigns, but it is at least possible that it will ... so perhaps it needs at least a mention (presumably in a later chapter?) Hmm, a possible point, though it's not likely a lot of players will reach that level...
I'd say you could likely buy neat tricks or other options. in EABA maybe someone could buy one time fate rerolls. I.E. reroll an attempt to use fate, or even make a fate roll affect two dice, so you could, with the one time deal, reduce damage by two dice for example. I don't know how many XP such a roll or additional die should cost though. |

I am Death. Death the Avenger, purger of sins. Death the Merciful, purifier of souls. Those who considered me gone, think again, Those who laughed and mocked me, be afraid. I am returned, and this time Judgement will not be denied, for my name is Death, and I have come to Judge you.

Fate/Luck Rolls in EABA are rather more valuable, but, still, 1 XP per Fate Roll would probably work. As for very few characters ever reaching a level where either of the points I made might matter ... as I noted, yes, it is unlikely. But is it impossible? I mean, DnD 3/3.5/4e all have Epic Levels for when characters become Godlike I don't think Godlike characters are likely necessary in most EABA games, but something like it might be. Phil |
