EABA v2 chapter 8 (gamemastering)

The way I hope to run this is a separate thread for each chapter, or if necessary subchapter of the rules, hashing out each one until we get it right. If you are just joining, do not feel obligated to read every post in every thread.

I am designing this for you, but I will on occasion be intractable about changes someone is pushing for. But if I'm flat out wrong, make me see why I'm wrong. One thing that will not change is that EABA is supposed to be a general system. Anything specific enough that it only applies to a specific gameworld should be restricted to that gameworld's setting book.

This should be a relatively easy chapter to review. I've got some space around page 8.11 (I think) to add more "player types" if anyone has any suggestions.

Looks like good stuff, though you might get a little argument from some, since some video games have gotten better at giving at least the illusion of player choice, depending on the game in question.

This is true, and nothing new. Deus Ex, the best computer RPG ever written, (2000) had massive choices in it including 3 different endings.

Your choices also affected how some characters acted towards you and what options you got.

More recently Bioshock had some real choices to make and they affected game play.

One thing about using movies as examples is that a lot of them feature ONE hero and some sidekicks. Realistically while a lot of people would like to play Indy, I can't imagine anyone wanting to play WIllie, so it cannot be overstressed that all players need to get to be heroes, not just one.

Calling NPCs "extras" seems/sounds silly...

Otherwise it is almost identical to 1.1's GM chapter. The quotes, and the idea of using quotes is clever.

Gregm did you do anything different with chapter 8? I can read all the other chapters, the character sheets, the power mods, boons, etx on my tablet fine, but when I try to open the chapter 8 pdf it just hangs. Did you use any different software with it? I can't read it on my tablet but it does read on my desktop, and all the others read on my tablet.

Damned odd, but nothing of much consequence.

Nope, nothing different. Don't worry about it for now, that chapter has relatively little changed from v1.

It's not so much the chapter itself, you're right that's mostly the same. I just can't get why my touchpad will display everything e;se I've downed here but not that one, fairly short, chapter. It displays chapters several times longer but not that one. Damned odd..

I was just curious if you'd encoded it with new or revised software or something. Really can't figure it out now...

I don't think its you. It may have just encoded the pdf a little differently. If you can download a different pdf reader and try it that way, or see if your web browser will open pdfs and try that, one of those might work.

Believe me I wish I could down another pdf reader for my touchpad. ONE THAT LET ME SEARCH A DOCUMENT.

Oh well, my viewsonic gtab is on it's way, I'll see what it has to offer after I change the OS on it, which almost all user concede needs done and viewsonic won;t do itself.
