I was wondering if there might be a stuff 2.0 on the horizon? Stuff was the first EABA prod I got, after seeing it's demo, and I've always liked it a lot.
I know stuff 2 would be harder to make that EABA 2 as stuff was a lot bigger than EABA so I understand if Greg isn't going to jump into it, especially with ASE, athos and the grep world books on the stove, but I was very curious. Also, I'm not sure stuff needs much of a rewrite as is.The core is still solid. At most maybe an add on, expansion, etc that covered some high tech stuff in more detail, maybe. Rules for weapons that disintegrate things like phasers, more detailed rules on something like an AI npc or character like Data from STTNG, etc. I've still got my teleporter rules around here somewhere... One thing I thought of was that weapons that caused effects like disintegration would, if you survived, automatically be crippling wounds because, let's face it, the part that was hit has been disintegrated and isn't healing. |

An interesting approach would be supplements. I'm reading through the starship creation rules in Fires of Heaven, and I really appreciate how they're easier to use than the 'Vehicles' chapter of Stuff. Supplements could be more concentrated on narrower topics and bring that same focus to other topics.

I'm hoping for a Stuff 2, but all the gadgets will end up being derived from the power creation rules and I'm still working on how to integrate vehicles and gadgets and powers. Vehicles are just a really big gadget with powers, after all.

Hello,
I am a big fan of Stuff (and still a big fan of 3G3). I liked the extra nuance that Stuff added to EABA (like recoil rules), found the armor design system to be even better than VDS and appreciated the excellent conversion material. The latter was especially useful as I imported gunpowder arms from 3G3, mostly because I wanted unique calibers for my dark future game and like to know specific capabilities for special situations like sniping (as well as my own edification). I worry a little that a powers-based model would detract from Stuff's excellent balance of technical sophistication and ease of use. I must confess however, that one of the things that bothers me about a certain, other system originally designed for superhero campaigns is its insistence that just about everything should be bought as a power, including stuff that should be bought as, well, stuff. With money, not character points. While I am definitely going to pick up EABA 2.0 because of the expanded power system and other awesome new material, I think I would be equally happy with a gently updated Stuff 1.0 as an EABA 2.0 weapons, vehicles, what-have-you companion. One thing I am trying for with the EABA v2 powers is a useful set of gizmo creation rules that tie things together, unlike Stuff's separate weapons and gadgets. And this will include modifiers that let you buy gizmos with money. And as a natural side effect of this, it also would mean you could buy powers with money. So, you could have a character with no points for powers, who nonetheless has an Iron Man suit, because he has ludicrous wealth and simply bought the powers with cash.

I pretty much like stuff as is, especially with the hit lcaiotns rules added in FoH.

One option for stuff is to have the "starting level" for a weapon or device be the sum of it's size and tech level. I'd say that would mostly allow for stuff to be more or less ported over to the new rules fairly easily and with a minimum of pain.
In essence this would almost be a case of the new EABA powers rules becoming a variant of the stuff rules, which is fine with me. |
