EABA is our foray into
open source, or in this case, open supplement gaming. We sell the
game and some supplements, you do whatever the hell you want with
it. Okay, there are plenty of free, public domain role-playing games
out there. Why should you pay for EABA? Because it's
not just an open supplement system, it's the best damn role-playing
system you're going to find, and it's an open supplement system.
I originally planned on putting a long philosophical rant about
here, detailing the 'evils' of a certain unnamed open system. But,
that would be a disservice to a lot of people I respect in this
industry, competitors/friends whose products I have played and playtested
for well over a decade. If you're reading this, you're already looking
for a new system, one that started from scratch, that tries and
hopefully does everything you want in a role-playing system. In
an era of $50 hardbacks, we wanted a game that you could afford
without busting your budget. EABA is that game. So
quit reading here and go to the EABA link on the navigation
bar...
F*ck This! is the rudest
card game you've ever played. Players compete to complete more and
longer phrases using the selection of 120 choice terms of profane,
blasphemous, violent, sexual or scatalogical nature. If this concept
offends you or the full size version of this image turns you off,
trust us, you do not want this game. If, on the other hand,
you snickered in spite of yourself, this game is a "must-have".
You can get it as a pdf download that you print off on business
card stock (available at any office supply store), or we'll print
it for you (but you'll pay twice as much). Both versions are available
through our normal online sales outlets. You can also get the free
Christmas supplement by clicking here.
CORPS
Tabula rasa, a blank slate. CORPS (Complete
Omniversal Role Playing System) is the
role-playing system that looks at what you want. Rules you can remember.
Dice you don't have to use. Guidelines for both new and experienced
players. Everything you need in one volume that's half the thickness
you would normally expect. From swords to psionics, magic to machine-guns,
past, present or future, this game has what you need. The only thing
it can't supply is what you have to bring to the game...imagination!!!!
What you get
CORPS is a six attribute, 1d10-based system for any sort
of campaign based on human norms or alternate worlds. So, while
it can handle mages, psychics and mercenaries, it doesn't handle
giant robots, powerful superheroes and city-stomping monsters. Actually,
it does handle them, but with a level of realism that removes the
fun from the genre. After all, if a supervillain can stop cannon
shells with his skin, your superhuman martial arts will just give
you the amazing ability to break your knuckles faster than the eye
can follow. Anyway, CORPS will work for science fiction,
modern thrillers, horror, and fantasy equally well. The character
generation system gives the players a lot of flexibility to make
interesting characters, and it gives the GM important tools to shape
the way the characters and the game world interact, through things
like cultural norms, skill limits, legal systems and region-specific
technology.
Mechanics
CORPS is a semi-diceless system. Tasks are rated by Difficulty,
and your appropriate skill or attribute is compared to the Difficulty.
If your adjusted skill is equal or higher, you succeed. That's all
there is to it. If your skill is lower than the Difficulty, you
roll 1d10, and the success chance is a function of the difference.
High skills allow you to complete tasks in less time, or absorb
modifiers for more difficult tasks, like called shots, or working
in adverse conditions. Combat is fast and deadly to the unprepared.
Characters act in order of skill level each turn, with more skilled
characters getting more actions. Damage from weapons directly affects
the part of the body hit, with location-specific effects like knockouts,
blood loss and broken bones. Armor protects you from lethal damage,
but you can still take non-lethal hits through blunt trauma and
other effects.
Supplements
Just so you know, all CORPS roleplaying supplements require
the CORPS basic rules for character generation, combat and
so forth.
CORPS
VDS is designed for use with CORPS, but is not
required to use it or to transplant your vehicles to other game
systems. CORPS VDS is a generic vehicle design tool for CORPS
and other realistically grounded rpg's. This doesn't prevent VDS
from having rules for magical power plants for science fiction topics,
just that VDS treats everything in a logical, consistent
fashion. For those of you familiar with our 3G3
product, it is about as complex (160 pages), with chapters for each
type of vehicle subsection (power plant, power train, structure,
etc.). VDS is an extremely detailed and number-heavy
book, so if that is not your cup of tea, take a look at EABA
Stuff! instead.
Dreamtime
is a game universe set in a mythical past, when the People were
a new thing upon the face of the Earth Mother, and the world still
seethes with the forces of Creation. If you can't carry it, you
don't own it, and everything you do own is made of wood, leather,
stone or bone. But you are rich in magic, and know the secret ways
of the shakt, whom you can call to do your bidding, help that is
necessary when things come out from the Bad Places to threaten the
People and sometimes the Earth Mother herself. It's odd, it's obscure
and it's not for everyone. But we like it.
Apocalypse,
a game universe set in an alternate present. The short form of the
background is 'Nazi elves come back from whatever dimension they've
been hiding in and enslave humanity'. The long version is quite
a bit more detailed and internally consistent, but no less depressing.
Get a free sample from here. It's rife with possibilities for adventure. Apocalypse
is a 128 page book, most of which is background detail.
Down
in Flames is a baker's dozen of world-wrecking scenarios
for CORPS or any other role-playing game. It's 12 bucks and
72 pages. You can download the first chapter from here.
TimeLords
is the exact same material as in the EABA version of the
gameworld, except it is all done in CORPS stats. See the
EABA product for more details.

Slag!
is the space combat game for people who aren't rocket scientists
and who don't have an aerospace budget...but still want a realistic
game.
Slag! boils things down to the minimum level, but still gives you
multiple Tech Levels, complete ship design rules, and enough optional
systems to recreate space battles from almost any fictional universe.
Don't let the simple cover fool you. That's why Slag! is only $7.95.
You're free to spend $10 more on a game with a fancy cover, or which
comes in a box, but you still won't get a better game.
What you get
Slag! is a 28 page polybagged game or a 150 page screen-formatted
pdf document. It includes rules, reference sheet, a hex map which
you can photocopy for larger battles (in case you don't already
have one), and a counter sheet. Mechanics The rules of Slag!
are streamlined to the point where a several player battle with
multiple ships per person can still be played in a few hours. Two
player duels are fast and deadly.
Ships are composed of systems, which are discrete assemblies with
a specific design function. How well it performs that function is
often based on the size of the ship it is mounted on (Slag!
supports ships from 50 tons to 250,000 tons). For instance, a "Sensor"
array on a large ship will provide better targeting data than one
on a small ship, because a "system box" on a large ship represents
far more tonnage than on a small ship, and therefore a better quality
sensor.
Combat is diceless,
although there are optional rules for diced hits and hit location.
Turns are several game minutes long, during which ships are expected
to fire hundreds of shots, only a few of which will hit. Standard
weapons include nuclear-tipped missiles, lasers, gamma-ray lasers,
railguns and particle beams, depending on Tech Level.
Slag!, stock #8001, suggested retail US$7.95
The pdf version of Slag! is available from our normal on-line
vendors, while the print edition is by direct order or through Hyperbooks
or RPGmall.
Guns!
Guns! Guns! (or 3G3) is a technically
sophisticated weapon design supplement for virtually any role-playing
game. You can design weapons of any type at any Tech Level where
they are possible (not just historically available), and then convert
that design to the role-playing game you prefer most.
3G3 lets you design conventional firearms, lasers,
particle beams, railguns or gauss weapons, melee weapons and archaic
weapons like bows, crossbows and siege engines.
3G3 has detailed conversion information for TimeLords,
CORPS, GURPS®, Hero System®,
Cyberpunk 2020®, Heavy Gear, Battlelords
of the 23rd Century, Nexus, Feng Shui,
Traveller New Era®, and Traveller 4th edition®.
How's that for value for your gaming dollar!
Limited edition hardback!
There is a limited run of hardback copies of 3G3.
These run $21, and are only available from Hyperbooks or
at conventions. As with other BTRC products, shipping in
the US is free. Shipping for the hardback is $4 to Canada, $8 to
England and Europe and $10 to the Pacific.
What you get
3G3 includes a 136 page rulebook with charts,
tables and conversion notes for nearly a dozen popular role-playing
systems. Supplements The only supplement for 3G3
is More Guns!, a 200+ page weapon compendium of over 500
weapons designed with 3G3 and pre-converted to
the stats of several role-playing games, like TimeLords,
CORPS, GURPS®, Hero System®,
Cyberpunk 2020®, and others.
If you want the functionality of 3G3 but don't want the math, try
Stuff! for EABA.

Dumbass!
is a descendant of F*ck This!, except it is one level more
complicated and two levels less offensive (so, yes, you can play
it with your family and not have to worry about your mother scrubbing
your mouth out with soap).
The
idea is much like 'dumb crook news', 'dumbest videos', or the
'Darwin Awards'. Each player tries to complete the stupidest stunts
possible, in order to get themsevles hospitalized, arrested or both.
Dumbass! is currently in final development and should be out in
early summer of 2006.
is the cult classic, politically incorrect
rpg that no gamer should be without. It may not make rabid fundamentalists
foam at the mouth as much as if they found a blood-stained altar
in your game room, but it's a lot more legal, and not nearly as
messy.
Macho Women with Guns is reverse-sexist and blatantly chauvanist
role-playing taken to its obvious limit. Everyone has to be busty
babes with guns, and the major role-playing goal is to find creative
new ways to blow up the established order of things. Where else
are you going to find skills like "Run in high heels", "Hit things
with other things" and the ever-popular "Do technical stuff"?
What you get
A book of rules and a short adventure, with your choice of four
cover illustrations. You have to supply three six-sided dice. What
more do you want?
Mechanics
Not that they really matter, but characters
are built on points around five attributes, special abilities and
skills, which use a 3d6 system for resolution. Departure from the
rules for humorous effect is strongly encouraged.
Supplements
The only supplement for Macho Women is More Excuses to
Kill Things, which is a pack of new and reprinted role-playing
and tactical scenarios for the game, along with a mini-solo adventure
in case you just want to play with yourself. It also comes with
a neato-keen 17 x 22 poster to annoy your friends with. Update:
More Excuses to Kill Things is now out of print. We're all sold
out. No immediate plans to reprint, but if I really feel like
beating this poor equine further, I'll make a fully interactive
pdf version of it.

Hollyworld
What if the world really worked the way it did in the movies?
And what if you knew this up front? That's the premise of
Hollyworld, where everyone's an actor, everything's a movie
and you can't be killed by an explosion if you are running away
from it at the time. Why? It's just the way things are, just
like it's always possible to fall from a height, and children and
cute creatures must be rescued. How hard can it be when your character
only has two stats (Style and Substance), and getting star billing
is more important than actual competence. See? It's just like
the real thing. Hollyworld is a simple little .pdf file
that will set you back a measely couple bucks, though we may have
printed copies for sale at conventions. Acting. It's not just a job,
it's an adventure.

Black
Death is a humorous and macabre little board game about
life in the Middle Ages, circa 1400AD, during the height of the
Plague. Each player takes the role of a different disease, and whoever
wipes out most of Europe wins! Loads of fun for 1 to 30 million
people, though 3-4 players gives best results.
What you get
Black Death includes a 4 page rulebook, a four-color map, and
a bunch of die cut counters. It requires two six-sided dice, and
a slightly twisted sense of humor, which you have to procure on
your own.
Black Death, stock #6001, suggested retail price US$9.95
Update: March 3, 2008: There is now an exceptionally nice looking pdf version of Black Death (graphics by Alvin Helms) available from our online vendors for US$8.00. While we will continue to sell the remaining stock of the original version for anyone who wants it, the new pdf version looks a lot better. The downside is you have to print and assemble it yourself. But, what you get looks like this. For those who request it, we can provide sets of pre-printed components on high-quality stock. To see what the download looks like, download the sample file from here.
Hunted is an experimental board game currently in development. It's about the most dangerous game, humans hunting other humans for sport. It's a cool game and a classic premise. The experimental part is that the game is being designed for pdf delivery, and when you take the time to assemble it, you will end up with a product that should be the equal in production quality to high-quality products like Settlers of Cataan. The game will cost you about US$10, and if you buy everything from scratch, probably another $10 in supplies, but you get a game that would normally sell for US$40-50. Whether people will be willing to take the half an hour it takes to put the game together for a twenty dollar savings is the big question. Hunted is currently in playtest.
Soft Landing is another experimental game. It will also be a download product, but it has little assembly required. Instead, you can use ordinary playing cards as your record-keepingt tools, although there will be templates for creating your own resource cards using business card pre-perfed sheets. Soft Landing is a trading and negotiating game using the modern world, unequal resource distribution and increasing population to put stress on the system. Players either have to work together to develop technoloigies to sustain future generations, or hoard sufficient resources to keep their current populations happy. Either way is a path to victory, which of course makes things very interesting... Soft Landing is also in playtest at this time.
